Terms and Conditions * 1.2 Statement of Problem and knowledge gap Several failed wells have been drilled both in Niger delta and other basins. In UK North Sea, seven wells were drilled but only two encountered hydrocarbon. One of the major highlighted cause was that proper AVO analysis was not done in the area. Till date no work has been done to spectrally decompose seismic data into several frequencies to enhance hydrocarbon exploration validated by amplitude variation with offset analysis as on VOM field data, Niger Delta Nigeria. 1.3 Location of Basin and Study Area The Basin of Niger Delta is an extensional rift basin located in the Gulf of Guinea and extends throughout the Province of Niger Delta. It lies on the passive continental margin close to the western coast of Nigeria. The delta has prograded south west ward from Eocene down to Present, given rise to various depo-belts which represents most of the active portions of the delta at every stage of its development (Kulke, 1995). The sediment’s thickness is an average about 10 km in the depo-belt’s center and the sediment’s volume as estimated is 500,000 km3 (Kaplan et al, 1994). VOM Field is located in the Coastal Swamp Depobelt, Eastern Part of the Niger delta (this is a sedimentary basin in southern part of Nigeria) with four wells.
